The kick type must be identified to determined the suitable kill procedure. Using the incorrect kill procedure goes up the potencial for circulation loss.
In order to avoid the blowout is important to know tho wise and known methods which are useful that all engineers must know. In general, two methods to circulate a kick out are applied most often.
WAIT-AND WEIGHT METHOD:
At the Wait-and-Weight method, the well is closed-in once a kick is detected and post-kick information is obtained. Next, the kill mud weight is determined, the weighted mud is prepared and then circulated in to kill the well. During that operation, the drillpipe pressure is checked according to the pressure schedule which has to be prepared before the circulation begins.
A constant bottom hole pressure method to prevent second kicks. In addition to saying that, it does minimize or reduce
kill pressures imposed to the welbore and equip
ment. furthermore, it kills the kick in one complete circulation.
DRILLER’S METHOD.
When the Driller’s method, which kills the kick in one bottoms up circulation, offers following advantages compared to the wait and weight method. as follows some instances.
- The circulation starts immediately.
- Enough time is given to weighting up the mud.
The disadvantages of the driller’s method compared to the wait and weight method are:
- Maximun surface pressure and pressure at the casing shoe are higher.
- Surface equipment is subjected to higher pressures for a longer time.
